Things I won't be buying...

My unread articles in Sharpreader was filled with gadgets. Here are the ones I won't be buying.

  • An MP3 player you can talk to.I don't want to talk to my anything. Not my car, not my computer, not my MP3 player. What happens if I have a cold? What happens if I'm in a noisy environment?

  • The iPod shuffle. Where's the display? I don't really care if the design is elegant if I need to stop and listen to each song for three seconds in order to skip to the next album.

  • The Mac mini. Ok. I like the size of it. It can't run Visual Studio. It can't run GTA Vice City. If I wanted to try an alternate OS, I can probably throw a comparable Linux machine together for half the price.

Back in business!

I really was never gone, but my RSS feed was down for a while. Changed some server settings and forgot to update my blogger settings (d'oh!).

New (fast) Corvette

Pics and info of the new 2006 Z06 Corvette. 500hp, 0-60 in mid 3's (I can still smoke it on my bike).

My only question... What's with all the damn plastic covering up the engine?

New Toy

I got a new toy . It's a 'C' frequency desktop rover. Kudos to ThinkGeek for their fast shipping. I placed the order at 1:00pm or so on Wednesday, upgraded to 2-day shipping (for a dollar more) and got the rover around 10:00am Thursday.

My first inclination with this was to update it to use less expensive batteries. I've since decided not to for several reasons. 1) The only place to put extra batteries (without interfering with the "laser tag" feature) is above the rover somewhere. With the "stock" battery location, the rover is already tipsy and has non-ideal front-rear weight distribution. The last thing it needs is a higher center of gravity. 2) You can buy the proper batteries on ebay for about $1.25 (shipped). There also is a 123A rechargable battery on ebay (and somewhere else, google it).
